「チャングム」主演女優が14年ぶりのスクリーン復帰！母になって魅せる新境地（MOVIE WALKER PRESS）

韓国で2003から2004年にかけて放送され、最高視聴率57.8%を記録しアジア中で大ヒット、日本でも「冬のソナタ」と並び韓流ドラマ人気の火付け役となった「宮廷女官チャングムの誓い」。そんな金字塔で主人公のチャングムを演じたイ・ヨンエにとって久々の出演作となる『ブリング・ミー・ホーム 尋ね人』が現在公開されている。

厳しい身分制度の時代に不幸な家庭環境に生まれたものの、天賦の才能と屈強な精神力で困難を乗り越えていく主人公を演じた「宮廷女官チャングムの誓い」や、幼児誘拐や殺人の濡れ衣で13年間服役していた女性が胸の内に隠していた真犯人への復讐心を徐々に露わにしていく過程を巧みに表現した『親切なクムジャさん』(05)など、類まれな演技力でジャンルに関係なく様々な難役をこなしてきたヨンエ。

結婚や出産などを経験し、一時期は仕事を中断していた彼女が『親切なクムジャさん』以来14年ぶりの映画出演作に選んだのが、『ブリング・ミー・ホーム 尋ね人』だ。本作は、6年前に失踪した息子の行方を捜し続ける母親が息子の目撃情報があったという漁村を訪ねるが、そこの村民や警察は異様な雰囲気を漂わせており…というサスペンス。いまも世界中で起こり続けている児童労働を題材に、二転三転する物語が展開していく。

ヨンエが演じるのは、姿を消した息子ユンスを捜し続ける母親のジョンヨン。かつて育児に疲れた際に「一人になりたい」と思ったことから、ユンスの失踪に負い目を感じており、もし息子が見つかっても昔のように戻れるのかという不安を抱えた複雑なキャラクターだ。

ヨンエはそんなキャラクターのやつれ具合を、どこかツヤのない髪の毛やうつむきがちな姿勢など見た目から絶妙に表現している。そしてジョンヨンはさらなる悲劇に見舞われてしまうのだが、加速する疲弊っぷりをトボトボとした歩き方や下がった口角、死んだような眼差しなどを巧みに表しており、心ここにあらずといった様子は見ていてつらくなってしまうほどだ。

それでも息子の情報を得るとすがるように漁村へと向かい、なにかを隠しているような漁村の人々の怪しげな態度を見て、危険を犯しながら闇へと踏み込むジョンヨン。そしてある真実にたどり着いた彼女の顔つきは、母親としての執念や覚悟が詰まった強さが感じられるものにガラッと変貌していく。

そのうえ…とこれ以上語ることはできないが、さらなるジョンヨンの変貌を迫真の演技で体現しているイ・ヨンエ。ブランクの間に母となったその経験を見事に反映している演技には、圧倒されてしまうことだろう。
