全世界で注目を浴びるNetflix映画6作品をスクリーンで！国内一部劇場で公開決定（Movie Walker）

190か国以上で利用されている世界最大級のオンラインストリーミングサービスNetflixが製作する話題の映画6作品が、このたび国内の一部劇場にて公開されることが発表された。全世界で注目を集めている6作品を、ここに一挙ご紹介したい。

エンタテインメントに特化し、各種受賞作を含む幅広いジャンルのコンテンツやドキュメンタリー、長編映画などを多言語で配信し全世界で会員を増やし続けているNetflix。6作品のうち、既に一部劇場で公開されているのがティモシー・シャラメ、ジョエル・エドガートン主演によるNETFLIX映画『キング』。未来の英国王でありながら王室の⼀員としての暮らしを拒み、何年もの間、民衆に混じって自由気ままに生きてきたティモシー・シャラメ演じる王子ハル。しかし、国王であった父の死後、ヘンリー5世として王位を継承した彼に、これまで避けていた現実が突き付けられる。若き王が戦争と混乱の時代にたくましく成長していく姿を描く本作は、現在Netflixで独占配信中、一部劇場で公開中だ。


続いては、先日、主演のアリシア・ヴィキャンデルが来日したことでも話題を呼んだ『アースクエイクバード』。東京で働くイギリス人女性に友人の殺人容疑がかけられるが、そこに複雑に絡み合う日本人カメラマンとの恋や友人との三角関係…。日本在住経験のあるイギリス人作家スザンナ・ジョーンズによる同名ミステリー小説を原作に、異国で暮らす女性の揺れ動く心理を繊細な描写で描いたサスペンス・ミステリーとなっている。製作総指揮をリドリー・スコットが務め、EXILE、三代目 J SOUL BROTHERSの小林直己初のハリウッド進出作品としても注目を集めている。


また、巨匠マーティン・スコセッシ最高傑作との呼び声も高い『アイリッシュマン』が劇場公開されるのも映画ファンにはうれしいところ。20世紀、悪名高い人物たちの傍らで動いていた実在のヒットマン、フランク・シーランの視点から第二次世界大戦後のアメリカ裏社会が語られる本作。ロバート・デ・ニーロ、アル・パチーノ、ジョー・ペシの豪華オスカー俳優3人の共演も大きな見どころだ。


アニメーション作品では、第72回カンヌ国際映画祭批評家週間でグランプリを受賞し、第43回アヌシー国際アニメーション映画祭ではグランプリにあたるクリスタル賞と観客賞をW受賞した話題の長編アニメーション映画『失くした体』が公開。切断された”手”が不幸な運命から逃れ、再び自身の身体とつながるためさまよう姿が描かれる。


さらに、第76回ヴェネチア国際映画祭でのワールドプレミアでも高い評価を得た『マリッジ・ストーリー』も、11月29日(金)より一部劇場にて公開される。女優のニコール(スカーレット・ヨハンソン)とその夫で監督兼脚本家のチャーリー(アダム・ドライバー)の、結婚生活への葛藤と離婚に向けた心情を描くヒューマンドラマとなっており、主演2人の重厚な演技には各国の批評家たちからも賞賛の声が上がっている。


そして最後の作品となるのが、『シティ・オブ・ゴッド』(03)でアカデミー賞にノミネートされたフェルナンド・メイレレスが監督を務め、アカデミー賞に三度ノミネートされたアンソニー・マクカーテンが脚本を手掛ける『2人のローマ教皇』。2000年にわたるキリスト教史おける歴史的転換点の裏側に迫る本作では、カトリック教会の方針に不満を抱くベルゴリオ枢機卿(ジョナサン・プライス)とベネディクト教皇(アンソニー・ホプキンス)という考え方のまったく異なる2人が、世界に10億人以上の信徒を擁するカトリック教会の未来を築くため、理解し合っていく姿を実話に基づき描く。
